A man who contaminated treats with sleeping medication and provided them to children at a youth camp in Leicestershire has admitted sexual crimes against two young males both between nine and ten.

The accused was arrested after eight youngsters and a grown-up became sick at the location in mid-summer.

The elderly man, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, pleaded guilty to a series of 17 offences when he was present at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week.

Yet, he disputed one of the sexual offences he was accused of, which was against a young boy.

The defendant was remanded in custody prior to a additional proceeding on late November.

'Treat game'

The prosecutor, prosecuting, described Ruben's offending to the court.

She explained his those affected were disadvantaged youngsters who were attending a summer program which he managed.

Ruben conducted a "candy game" with the youngsters, the prosecutor said, in which he would access the sleeping quarters when they were settling down and tell them to ingest treats "as quickly as they can".

She stated to the judge Ruben had played this game with the young males "repeatedly", and minors had earlier experienced illness the subsequent day.

She stated Ruben had been capable of justifying this repeatedly as the minors being "overexcited from fun", until his family member had suspicions in summer 2025.

The legal representative stated further: "This year his stepchild had suspicions about the situation, for good reason.

"They chose" to have a look in the individual's items."

Mrs Prior KC said objects including lubricant, petroleum jelly and syringes were located, and his stepchild alerted the authorities about his worries.

She explained the man continued to engage in the "treat game" with six boys that time - July 26th - and they were all sick the next day.

"Law enforcement" had not responded by that point," she added.

The oversight body, the investigative body, previously told that it was examining the police response of the events.

The legal representative stated the minors were unable to walk properly due to their condition, so the stepson called the police once more.

She stated the man then played the "sweet game" in a room of five youngsters.
