England along with Wales Placed in the Same Group for RWC 2027 Down Under

Draw event for the 2027 tournament
The group draw was conducted by rugby icons such as former All Black Dan Carter.

The English side and Wales have been drawn in an identical pool for the World Cup in 2027, setting up a highly-anticipated early encounter in Australia. They are joined in Group F by the Tongan Ikale Tahi and Zimbabwe.

This pairing recalls their memorable clash in the pool stages of the 2015 World Cup, where Wales' victory at Twickenham contributed to the hosts' shock group stage elimination.

Other Notable Pool Draws

The Irish and Scotland have likewise been drawn in a group once again, replicating the scenario from the France 2023 tournament. In that tournament, they secured a convincing win, with Scotland failing to progress to the knockout stages.

Uruguay and Os Lobos, who each made a strong impression as underdogs in France, round out that same group.

Significantly, the winners of both Pool D and Pool F cannot meet holders and world number one South Africa before the showpiece match, presuming the Springboks top their own group.

Tournament Ramifications

Should the groups conclude according to the current global standings, further top favourites like the All Blacks and France would remain separated from the likes of the English and Ireland all the way to the final.

Under those circumstances, Los Pumas would be the remaining top-ranked nation on that side of the knockout draw as England and Ireland.

Hosts Draw Blockbuster Opener

Hosts Australia find themselves together with their great rivals and triple champions New Zealand in Pool A.

The Wallabies will kick off the tournament in Perth on October 1st, 2027 in a blockbuster fixture designed to jump-start the competition.

In other groups, holders South Africa have been paired with the Azzurri, the Lelos and the Oaks. France are in a pool with Japan, 2031 hosts the United States and Manu Samoa.

Larger Format for 2027

Los Pumas will face Fiji, Los Leones and Canada as the World Cup expands to 24 teams from the 20 who competed in 2023.

This edition will introduce a round of 16 round for the first time in the competition's existence.

While the victor of Pool F may avoid some of the game's biggest beasts initially, they will meet the second-placed team from Pool B – probably the Italians – in the first knockout round.

Four of the remaining six pool winners will play a team that finished third from the pool stages.
